SIS Sync Your Course Data
CourseLeaf was built to drive accuracy across all of your campus systems - from governance and accreditation, your SIS and catalog, your audit and transcript, billing and more. Before completing workflow, our unique SIS Sync tools ensure that any course or curricular change made in CourseLeaf is accurately reflected in the SIS and other systems of record.
If there is data that is misaligned, you will be alerted. Follow the steps below to identify the discrepancy and complete your SIS Sync.
Review Red/Green Markup
- Navigate to the Approval screen at yournextsite.yourinstitution.edu/courseleaf/approve, or click the Approve Pages tool on the CourseLeaf Console.
- From the Your Role dropdown, select your SIS. All of the course proposals waiting at the SIS step will display in the Pages Pending Approval screen.
- Click on a course that has not yet synced. The red/green markup through the Approve Pages screen for a course at the SIS step in workflow will show you the differences between CIM and the SIS. The changes in green represent CIM, and the changes in red strike-through represent the SIS.
- Make additional updates to the SIS or CIM. Overnight, CourseLeaf will attempt an update again.
- If the problem persists, follow the next set of troubleshooting steps.
Click on “Why Did This Not Sync”
- If the problem is not apparent in the red/green markup, select the Why Did This Not Sync? link on the bottom right-hand corner of the proposal.
- Why Did This Not Sync? will display all fields of the proposal that are syncing and give a detailed outline of the data of the original CIM value, the proposed CIM value, and the current SIS value, along with SIS mapping information.
- Use the Legend at the bottom of this screen to identify the action that needs to be taken for each field. Follow either the syncing or bridging instructions present for each field of the form which is syncing.

Click on the “Approve Button”
- If the problem is still not apparent, click the Approve button
- A message will appear that describes the problem. The message will display the data that is now in the CIM form and what CourseLeaf believes is in the SIS. For example, if the CIM form had MATH 307 as the prerequisite, but the SIS data had MATH 407 as the prerequisite, then this is the warning CourseLeaf would provide: Cannot approve course: attribute “Prerequisite(s)” (‘MATH 307’ - ‘MATH 407’) varies You can read this as: Cannot approve course: attribute “Name of Field” (what’s in CIM) -compared to- (what’s in the SIS data) varies
